Reporter Heather Clisby was there … The Morongo Basin Municipal Advisory Council (MAC) gathered last night via Zoom for a nearly two-hour meeting where the main topic was illegal pot farms. Captain Luke Niles from the Morongo Basin Sheriff station explained the sheriff’s effort and how it runs parallel to the county’s Narcotics Division. Local sheriffs have served 34 search warrants since the start of the year and the Narcotics Division has served 30. Since March 17, the sheriffs have spent 1,200 man hours serving these warrants and have seized 33,000 pot plants.

At the Yucca Valley Town Council meeting Tuesday, the council heard a presentation from Caltrans about the improvements being made on Highway 62 from the bottom of the Morongo Grade to Twentynine Palms, a project that is expected to last two years. Managing editor Tami Roleff says at the conclusion of Tuesday’s meeting, the council heard from the Morongo Basin’s Sheriff’s captain who asked residents to slow down… “We’re looking forward to the wonderful highway improvement project finally coming to our area.” Sheriff’s captain Luke Niles told the Yucca Valley Town Council that while calls for service for crime-related calls have remained pretty steady over the last year, that hasn’t been the case for other types of calls.

YUCCA VALLEY TOWN COUNCIL IN A BUSY SESSION LAST NIGHT

Last night’s Yucca Valley Town Council meeting was host to a variety of topics, ranging from community presentations to the ratification of an opposition letter for the relocation of a sexually violent predator into the Twentynine Palms area. Reporter Joshua King has more details… The Yucca Valley Town Council met last night to discuss many important matters, but first turned over the podium to Joshua Tree National Park Superintendent David Smith for an update on the park. In his presentation, Smith discussed the original closure of the park last year, the high numbers of tourists coming through the park, totaling roughly 3 million visitors this last year, and the upcoming Black Rock Rehabilitation Project.
