The 49-year-old actor is set to reunite with Darren Aronofsky in the creepy flick, more than two decades after they worked together on the acclaimed Requiem for a Dream .
Jason Blum will produce through his Blumhouse Productions along with Jared and Emma Ludbrook for the Suicide Squad star s Paradox banner.
The movie is based on a short story by Koji Suzuki with Darren and Luke Dawson set to pen the script. Insiders suggest that Leto and Ludbrook have pursued the rights to the project for a number of years.
The story takes place in the calm of the open sea, where a fishing boat discovers an abandoned yacht with a strange distress call.
Jared Leto has been making movies in Hollywood for over 30 years.
But on Thursday the 49-year-old star told the SiriusXM program The Jess Cagle Show that he does not watch his own films: I ve always found it to be less stressful, he shared.
That includes the 2013 drama The Dallas Buyers Club with Matthew McConaughey which won Leto a Best Supporting Actor Oscar for playing the transgender character Rayon.

Jared Leto and Darren Aronofsky are teaming for a film package called “Adrift” that is based on a short story by the writer of “The Ring.” Jason Blum will produce the film through his Blumhouse Productions.
“Adrift” is a reunion between Leto and Aronofsky, who previously worked together on Aronofsky’s 2000 cult film “Requiem for a Dream.” The new film will star Leto and be directed by Aronofsky based on the story of the same name by Koji Suzuki.
