Eight churches around New York State will serve as pop-up sites for vaccine kit distribution as officials work to vaccinate people in the Black and Latino communities.
Churches in Albany, Buffalo, Rochester, and Syracuse will operate vaccine sites as well as churches in Brooklyn, the Bronx and on Long Island.
The pop-up sites are opening amid concerns over vaccine hesitancy among people of color, hesitancy that is historically rooted in part by medical experiments conducted on Black people in the mid-20th century.

Established initially as a memorial after Bertrand “Buddy” Might’s sudden
passing on October 23rd 2020 at the age of 12, this page now
serves to remember him as a person and also to coordinate and catalyze
activities that honor his legacy, such as the newly formed Bertrand Might
Endowment for Hope.

The workshop, provided by the Wyoming Department of Health, will be staged at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Buffalo, and will teach how to recognize an at-risk individual, make a plan to help, and identify resources available to help, among other skills.
The workshop has limited enrollment, and is normally $275 to attend the two-day training, but enrollment costs have been covered with prevention grant funding through the Department of Health.
Trainers for the workshop are provided by the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) Wyoming Chapter.
