Man who discovered suspicious item in Whitley reveals discovery

THE MAN who discovered the item which caused a four-hour lockdown of a road in Whitley has described what the object as “something suspicious.” David Venning, who lives at one of the properties on Lulworth Road, was passing a nearby bin store at around 9.30am when he spotted the item. He immediately called the police who told him to go indoors. Within half an hour, police knocked on his door and asked him to evacuate his property as they were dealing with a “suspicious package.” Around 100 people were forced to leave their homes as a cordon was put in place around Lulworth Road.

Reading: bomb disposal unit called to Lulworth Street

Controlled explosion of suspicious object on street in Reading A CONTROLLED explosion took place on a street in Reading today after the bomb disposal unit was called to the scene. Around 100 residents were told to evacuate their homes by Thames Valley Police at around 11.45am this morning, following a suspicious item being found on Lulworth Road, Whitley. A cordon was put in place while officers dealt with the scene, with pupils from Christ The King Primary School being evacuated to another nearby school for their safety.  Thames Valley Police later confirmed on twitter that a controlled detonation took place on the road this afternoon, where the suspicion item was not belived to have been a threat to the wider public.
