February 26, 2021 7:45 am KGMI Puget Sound Energy BELLEVUE, Wash.  Puget Sound Energy is helping to fund solar installation projects in Whatcom County. The utility is awarding grants to organizations that offer support services to community members in need. Local recipients include Lummi Nation School, Sustainable Connections and the Institute for Washington’s Future. PSE is issuing grants to a total of 15 organizations in the region, funding projects that use solar to power the equivalent of 50 homes per year. Featured Content

Feb. 2 Whatcom County started February off with one coronavirus-related death and 90 new confirmed COVID-19 cases reported by the Washington State Department of Health s dashboard on Monday, Feb. 1. That news came on the heels of the county nearly doubling its monthly record for number of reported cases in January. Overall, Whatcom County has seen 5,610 confirmed cases and 65 related deaths during the pandemic, according to state data as of 11:59 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 31, meaning 1.2% of all COVID cases in Whatcom County have been linked to a death.

Jan. 8 Whatcom County smashed a record it had no interest in ever approaching, as the Washington State Department of Health reported 171 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 on Thursday, Jan. 7. While that matched the 171 new cases the state Department of Health reported four days earlier, the cases reported Sunday, Jan. 3, represented three days of data an average of 57 cases per day following the New Year s holiday and no data being released Saturday due to a processing error by the state.
