Lumina Foundation Grant Will Help Common Cause Education Fund Expand Organizing & Leadership Program For Students of Color

Common Cause 01.13.2021 / 8:59 AM David Vance National Media Strategist (202) 736-5712 dvance@commoncause.org Today, the Common Cause Education Fund is pleased to announce it is a recipient of Lumina Foundation’s racial equity funding program to expand the Student Action Alliance. The Student Action Alliance is a program for students of color that is led by a team of Black millennials. The program focuses on Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and students of color at Predominantly White Institutions (PWIs). The two-year $200,000 grant, which is part of the Lumina Foundation’s $15 million effort to help eradicate systematic racism, will allow the Common Cause Education Fund to increase its staff capacity and expand our program to additional HBCUs and to other Minority Serving Institutions.

Share this article Share this article INDIANAPOLIS, Jan. 13, 2021 /PRNewswire/ Lumina Foundation has released the first grants from a $15 million Racial Justice and Equity Fund to national and Indianapolis-based organizations that focus on eradicating systemic racism in fields that align with or complement the foundation s work. In the wake of George Floyd s brutal death in police custody last year, Lumina reaffirmed our commitment to the Racial Justice and Equity Fund and pledged to support efforts to dismantle systemic racism, said Danette Howard, senior vice president and chief policy officer at Lumina. Some projects are focused on post high-school education, but others will address different aspects of racial inequity.

Mike Abbate to receive Pam Lydic Coalition Builder Award | News, Sports, Jobs

Jan 9, 2021 The Chautauqua County Chamber of Commerce will present its 2020 Pam Lydic Coalition Builder Award to Mike Abbate, who has worked tirelessly for the economic betterment of Chautauqua County and to address the critical issues of education and food resources in our communities. “I am humbled and honored to be this year’s recipient of the Chautauqua County Chamber of Commerce Pam Lydic Coalition Builder Award,” Mike Abbate said. Abbate started at the Cummins Jamestown Engine Plant in 1981 and served in a variety of roles there. In 2013, he was named Plant Manager, serving in that capacity until 2018. During his plant manager tenure, the plant celebrated the production of the 1.5 millionth engine and made significant investments towards the plant’s future.
