Picture: Mike Tipping LOVING tributes have been paid to Laura Mason, the York cookery writer and food historian, who has died from cancer aged 63. Laura, who died on February 2, was born in Ilkley but settled in York. Her funeral took place on February 15. She was well known in York for her cookery writing and involvement with the York Food Festival. As an expert on confectionery she advised the makers of the 2004 film, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, on the set-up of Honeyduke’s Sweetshop.
A new support service for Dudley small businesses had been launched, with the former boss of Mary Stevens Hospice in charge. Stourbridge Royal Navy veteran Stevan Jackson, the former Group CEO of the hospice, is launching a small business mentoring group. Mr Jackson, a former coal miner, is a group chair of Vistage, a leadership organisation for small and medium-size businesses. He will be able to one-to-one support and organise peer group meetings for leaders looking to gain new perspectives and innovative ways to solve real-life business and personal challenges. The group will cover Dudley Metropolitan Borough and its surrounding areas.

In 2013, fitness trainer Chris Jordan published a simple sequence of 12 exercises in a medical journal. It was notable because it combined aerobic and resistance training into a single bout of exercise that lasted just seven minutes. “As body weight provides the only form of resistance, the programme can be done anywhere,” wrote Jordan, who has a master’s degree in exercise physiology from Leeds Metropolitan University (now known as Leeds Beckett University).
COLUMBUS, Ohio Gavin MacLeod has joined Ohio State as an assistant coach, Lori Walker-Hock announced Tuesday. MacLeod departs the University of Cincinnati where he served as the associate head coach with the women’s soccer program last season.
“Gavin is a perfect fit with our program and staff,” Walker-Hock said. “He has a competitive fire to work with elite players that is balanced with a his own desire and curiosity to grow and learn. He brings an energy and passion for teaching that is balanced with a quick-witted sense of humor.
“Gavin has a wealth of soccer knowledge from various levels as well as a strong background in soccer specific sports science and kinesiology, she said. “He has a keen eye for details in training and film. He brings a pride and passion for defending. Gavin has a web of recruiting relationships in Ohio, the surrounding region, as well as across the country that will open additional pipelines for future Buckeyes.”
