Kids learn better in classrooms
Face-to-face models show greatest gains in proficiency; student accomplishment expected to continue to improve in quarter 4
By MEGHAN BRADBURY - | May 5, 2021
Kids learn better in school classrooms, data collected by the School District of Lee County shows.
Although distance learning proved to be effective in some areas, numbers presented to the School Board of Lee County this week pointed towards the “face-to-face” model showing the greatest gains in student proficiency as measured by the number of students showing a satisfactory or higher level of achievement.
District officials, though, concede that no group of students regardless of whether they are attending classes on campus, or taking part in one of the two distance or remote learning options is performing to a level the district would have hoped for pre-pandemic, officials said.

While this school year isn’t over yet, some districts are looking forward to their plans for the next school year. The pandemic changed the way children learned but schools are hoping that things will be back to normal.
For the past year, learning has consisted of children behind screens and in Zoom boxes and teachers alone in their classrooms but embracing the challenges that have come their way.
“It was difficult and it is hard. Yet they continue to move forward and do what’s best for kids,” said Clayton Simmons, executive director for High Schools and Special Centers at the School District of Lee County.

Lee County schools to transition virtual students back to in-person learning; what to know
Published: April 8, 2021 4:26 PM EDT
The School District of Lee County has made the decision to discontinue Lee Home Connect for the next school year.
“We understand that this may cause concern for families who wish to have their child enrolled in a virtual learning environment, however, Lee Virtual School will continue to be an option.” the district said in an email.
Students currently enrolled in Lee Home Connect will automatically be transitioned back to face-to-face learning at the assigned brick-and-mortar school they attended prior to Lee Home Connect (with the exception of fifth and eighth-graders moving to middle or high school, who will be assigned to their school via our Student Enrollment process).
