LEESBURG, Ga. (WALB) - A Lee County firefighter made sure to protect a Navy veteranâs flag when Saturdayâs storm snapped a flagpole in half.
Navy Veteran John Knighton said the storm didnât last long, but he said it was 15 seconds of terror when the storm hit Stocks Dairy Road.
âAll of a sudden I heard like a sonic boom and that caused me to jump,â said Knighton.

LEE COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18) â Lee County can t seem to catch a break.
First, it was the February ice storm. Then, historic flooding. Now, fires.
Beattyville assistant fire chief Tyler Phillips tells LEX 18 there have been nine fires within 24 hours all throughout the county. He said most of them were small, but the largest one, which burned alongside Evelyn Road, grew to a couple hundred acres.

This was 1 of 9 fires that started within 24 hrs. They re now out. No one reported hurt or any structures damaged. Great work from ð¥ crews!
Rescue crews continue search for missing Lee County man

BEATTYVILLE, Ky. (LEX 18) â The search for Shawn Little entered its third day on Monday, with officials dragging the bottom of the North Fork Kentucky River in Beattyville.
âWe will search until the information we have plays out,â said Lee County EMS Director Jon Allen.
Allen said Little wandered away from his home at roughly 4 a.m. the morning after Christmas. He hasnât been seen or heard from since.
âHe would go fishing and hunting. Those woods are where he grew up, he knows all of it. Thereâs no reason he should be lost,â said Littleâs daughter Kayla Napier McHargue.
