Radnor votes down Raider nickname – again

RADNOR The Raider nickname won’t be coming back to Radnor. After voting to ditch its long-time Raider nickname last September and weeks after the administration said it would not consider using it as an option, the school board this week once again rejected any consideration of using the Raider nickname. In a six-to-three vote, the board killed a plan that would allow the Raider name to be considered along with several other possible names. The controversy is due to links between the name Raider and Native American imagery that has developed over the past several decades. For the first few decades the school used the Raider nickname, there was no connection with Native American imagery.

Bolton Octagon announces reopening season with plans to warm up from May

Bolton Octagon Bolton Octagon has unveiled its warm up season from May as well as its first main house production for the summer. The recently refurbished space will welcome audiences back on 26 May with new play See You At the Octagon, penned by Becky Prestwich. Playing until 15 June, the piece is based on the stories of people in and around the town. On 11 June, a plethora of comedians will take over the space with Justin Moorhouse and Friends, while across the months of May and June the venue s First Bite playwriting events will return, featuring texts by Hannah Wilkin, Robert Hudson, Adam Kotwal, Jaclyn Backhaus and Liz Duffy Adams.
