Queen s five-month-old puppy Fergus died of heart problem

Queen is left devastated after five-week old Dorgi puppy dies

It is not known how Fergus died.  The day before Prince Philip s funeral, the Queen drove her two new puppies from Windsor Castle towards Frogmore Gardens for a walk. The Queen named the dorgi - a Dachshund and a Welsh Corgi mix - Fergus, after her maternal uncle Fergus Bowes-Lyon, who died in France during World War I.  He was given along with a second dog, a corgi, Muick - pronounced Mick - after Loch Muick, a lake on the Balmoral Estate in Scotland   It has since emerged that the pups were bought by Prince Andrew in a bid to cheer the Queen up.

Prince Andrew gifted corgi puppies to help Queen cope when Prince Philip was ill

Prince Andrew gifted his mother two puppies to help her cope when her late husband was in hospital, reports suggest today.  Her Majesty was given the dogs in February to keep her company in Windsor while the Duke of Edinburgh was recovering from heart surgery.  It has now emerged that the pups were bought by Prince Andrew in a bid to cheer his 94-year-old mother up.  This comes as royal experts predict the Duke of York is trying to rehabilitate himself and get back into the royal fold - despite his brother Charles and Prince William pushing plans for a slimmed-down monarchy.
