Lexington community reflects on anniversary of George Floyd

LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) â On the one year anniversary of the death of George Floyd and the movement that started because of him, community members and leaders in Lexington focus on progress made and action steps for the future.
LPD Accountability organized a George Floyd Memorial: Day of Action on Tuesday to mark the anniversary.
They started with a rally focused on filing a formal complaint to demand justice for Liam Long, the 19-year-old teen with autism who was hit by a police cruiser in March. Then at 3 p.m. they tuned into the urban county council s work session and plan to meet again at the courthouse for a memorial for George Floyd. They ve continued to protest, rally and push for change since.

(LEX 18) â The Lexington Police Department released body camera video of a collision involving a police cruiser that hit a teen with autism.
LEX 18 filed an open records request on Thursday seeking to obtain information about the incident on March 30, including the names of the officers called to the scene, any and all body camera footage, and the audio of the initial 911 call. Late Friday evening, the Lexington Police Department released carefully edited body camera video showing two different perspectives on the incident: one from an officer on the ground and one from the officer who hit the suspect.

A young man apologised to a sheriff for subjecting him to a tirade of abuse at a previous hearing.
It happened after Liam Long s demand last month that he be jailed immediately was rejected by Sheriff Andrew Berry.
After he was told that he was to be remanded, Long repeatedly insisted on the instant sentence, unleashing a tirade of abuse the sheriff described as outrageous and disgraceful .
