Claudio Ingaramo: Cenovus committed to safe operations and community investment in Lima
By Claudio Ingaramo - Guest Columnist
We value our connection with the Lima community and want to correct some inaccuracies in recent media and social media about our company and staffing plans for our maintenance turnaround this fall at what is now Cenovus Lima Refinery.
Cenovus is a Canadian integrated energy company committed to developing and processing oil and natural gas resources in a safe and responsible manner. Following Cenovus’s combination earlier this year with Husky Energy, the Lima Refinery became a core Cenovus asset and an important part of our long-term integrated energy strategy. The refinery has been operating in Lima for 135 years, and we respect the generations of families who have supported us over this tremendous history. We are proud to be a top regional employer, providing jobs for 450 people, about half of whom are union-represented. And, together with our employees

Around 3,000 out-of-state workers will be brought into the Lima Refinery this fall to help in the annual turnaround.
LIMA The Cenovus (formerly Husky) Lima Refinery will be bringing in workers this fall to help with their annual turnaround and that’s upset a local labor organization.
“We continue to prepare the fall turnaround, which is critical for safe and reliable operation,” said Reg Curren, senior advisor, media and issues management for Cenovus, in an email to The Lima News. “As we have said previously, contractors are selected based on a number of criteria, including safety, technical expertise and related experience. We hired contractors for this work who best met our criteria.”
Jim Krumel: Right way, wrong way, government way

It simply doesn’t make sense.
How can someone take over a job they’ve never done, and get paid more than the person who previously held the position for 32 years?
That’s what will happen when Lima elects a new mayor in November. The newly elected candidate not only will receive outgoing Mayor David Berger’s $125,811 yearly salary, but on top of that, she or he will get a cost-of-living increase.
The Lima News brought up the possibility of this happening five years ago, but those on City Council at that time took things in a different direction. Instead of passing an ordinance that would set a lower starting wage for a new mayor, council instead decided to cut Berger’s pay from $132,000 to $123,500.
