ABC has won seven trophies at the international Kidscreen Awards, including four for hit series,
Bluey.
ABC programs and Australian producers and creators were honoured across the preschool, kids and tweens / teens programming categories at the awards on 9 February, which celebrate the world’s best children’s television and digital entertainment.
ABC’s haul of 7 Kidscreen Awards was its most successful to date, tying with Disney, and only just behind US network PBS (8).
Bluey, produced by Ludo Studio, won Best Animated Series for preschoolers, plus three Creative Talent Awards for Best Directing, Best Writing and Best Music.

Hardball returned to La Perouse Public School for its second season, but COVID-19 restrictions meant those sequences were filmed during the school holidays.

Hardball crew face new challenges, the end of primary school approaching, and a scholarship opportunity for Mikey that could split up the gang for good. Together the kids from Block Street strive to win the state doubles handball tournament before they reach the end of primary school and experience all the change that comes with it.

It’s been a big and experimental year for the Australian network. The pubcaster promoted Libbie Doherty to head of children’s production, with a remit to commission more than 350 hours of animation and live-action content. Running with that mission, ABC ordered transgender tween series First Day and Cheeky Little Media’s animated show Kangaroo Beach. It also co-commissioned a second season of popular series Bluey with BBC Studios, and launched the DisRupted film-based funding program for creatives with disabilities. Archive
