Nurses all over the world have gone above and beyond to deliver extraordinary care in the face of a global health crisis while still facing the demands of other professional and personal obligations. As National Nurses Month gets underway, Lynn Kelso, an assistant professor in the University of Kentucky College of Nursing and an acute care nurse practitioner in UK HealthCare’s medical intensive care unit (MICU), reflects on the challenges she and her colleagues faced over the past year.

Children turning into apples: Imagine U Storytime’s latest installment

That’s what the children in “Wayside School vs. Ms. Gorf” have to figure out.
The story, produced by Communication senior Matthew Threadgill, is the latest installment in the Imagine U Storytime series hosted by the Virginia Wadsworth Wirtz Center for the Performing Arts. The storytimes, which were introduced at the pandemic’s onset, are short videos geared toward children put on by theatre students, faculty and alumni. Threadgill adapted “Wayside School vs. Ms. Gorf” from Louis Sachar’s “Sideways Stories of Wayside School.”
“This story was a huge part of my childhood,” Threadgill said. “I thought, ‘I would have so much fun giving the gift of that story to children.’”

National Theatre in D.C. commissions three works from Imagine U
What do you do with a hat with a hole in it? How can you have adventures when stuck inside the house? And what do you do when you have big feelings about not being able to see your friends and relatives?
Beginning Jan. 16, a diverse cast of Northwestern University students and alumni will present Imagine U episodes created for “Saturday Morning Live! at The National Theatre.” Exploring the theme of “Life Now,” the episodes feature stories, songs, movement and crafts created to help families cope creatively with the challenges of life during the pandemic.
