The Teaching Council investigated complaints about teachers, and managed teacher registrations. A Teaching Council spokeswoman confirmed on Wednesday the council was in the “very early stages” of considering the information, and deciding its next steps.

The Teaching Council is urging teachers to confront racism with a campaign it says some might find scary. The teacher’s school or centre was normally the first port of call for raising concerns, to give them a chance to investigate and resolve issues. But if an employer had reason to believe a teacher had engaged in “serious misconduct”, the employer had to report it to the Teaching Council, she said.
