Theatre nurses have expressed their concerns around the backlog of surgical procedures in wake of Covid-19 and have warned of the negative impact this is having on patient outcomes and staff morale.
Snapshot survey results provided to
Nursing Times found three-quarters of theatre nurses were working in organisations where the number of patients waiting more than 18 weeks for elective care – the national target time – had increased since March 2020.

Figures showed more than half (54%) of theatre nurses felt such delays to surgical procedures were having a negative impact on staff morale and almost two-thirds (62%) felt the same about patient outcomes.
