ROANOKE RAPIDS — The spirit of Santa is within Craig Ivey this year. He donated $10,000 to the Union Mission, according to Sabrina Lawson, mission executive director. Ivey gave the amount of $10,000 after he asked Lawson to double the highest individual donation they had received, which was $5,000. His aim for the giving is Hodgestown, which was his home on Wilkins Street, Lawson said. Now he lives in Florida. “He said, ‘I really want to see kids get a good Christmas in Hodgestown,’ ” Lawson said. “His life has changed, he has moved away and wants to give back to his community.” Ivey also told her to save some of the money for the mission to purchase food, supplies and other needs of the community it serves.
