A new Quit campaign from Cancer Council Victoria, created by Melbourne agency Three Wise Men, delivers important new health information to smokers. The increased risk of heart attack for people who smoke is widely known, but this campaign tells why in a graphic demonstration.
Inhaling cigarette smoke causes a smoker’s blood to become sticky within 10 minutes. Sticky blood can increase the likelihood of the formation of a blood clot and damage the delicate lining of blood vessels. This can lead to the potential for a catastrophic heart attack, even in relatively young smokers. The campaign uses the analogy of a pump pack becoming clogged up to demonstrate to dangers to a smoker’s heart.
SOUTH BERWICK, Maine The president of Tuskegee University, a representative of the National Park Service and a descendant of Booker T. Washington was among those presenting at an historic online event connecting the communities of South Berwick, Maine, and Tuskegee, Alabama on Friday, Feb. 12.
Tuskegee officially received from the people of South Berwick an original letter written in 1898 from Booker T. Washington to Mrs. George Tyson, who owned the Hamilton House in South Berwick.
The letter, donated by antique collector Rick Becker of South Berwick, was framed and sent with a plaque that said, “With love from the people of South Berwick to the people of Tuskegee, Ala.”

Two Yorkton residents arrested in June on drug trafficking charges, have appeared in court again.
In Yorkton today, 52-year-old Linda Becker and 49-year-old Danny McLean had their matters adjourned to March 17th for a Preliminary Inquiry.
On June 14th, Yorkton RCMP conducted a traffic stop and searched two homes in the city.
They seized two ounces of fentanyl, three ounces of cocaine, 250 dilaudid pills, 98 hydromorphone pills, and 7-thousand dollars in cash.
