WAVERLY- A local couple is continuing its search for financial help to cover repair costs to their home on Prosperity Road.
An effort for the last five years, Linda Atkins said the conditions of her home where she lives with her 72-year-old husband, Eric, have worsened considerably.
Needed repairs include the propertyâs back porch, interior walls, and piping. Both on fixed incomes, the $32,800 estimate is not one she feels is possible for the couple.
âWeâve been trying for years to get the money to fix-it up,â Atkins said, turning 71 later this year. âBut we havenât been able to go anywhere.â

Town falls silent to mark death of Duke of Edinburgh );
HENLEY fell silent for one minute to mark the death of the Duke of Edinburgh.
A brief ceremony was held on the steps of the town hall at 3pm on Saturday, when Prince Philip’s funeral service at Windsor Castle started.
The silence was led by Prime Minister Boris Johnson from his official home at Chequers and thousands of towns across Britain took part.
Mayor Ken Arlett, his wife Mayoress Dorothy Arlett and deputy Mayor David Eggleton were joined by Oxfordshire deputy lieutenant Lynda Atkins and Ann Evans and John Green, who are chairwoman and president respectively of the Royal British Legion’s Henley and Peppard branch.
Atkins Gallery reopened at Founders in October 2020, after a two-year break. The specialist gallery deals exclusively with Toss Wollaston watercolours and drawings of the Nelson/Tasman region, alongside artwork by a small selection of local artists including quality jewellery and ceramics. Woollaston’s works currently on display include watercolours of Tasman Bay, Mt Campbell , Mt Arthur, Lyttleton Harbour and Horoirangi. Also included are drawings, with an early sketch from Māpua and an early portrait of the famous local identity Eelco Boswijk. Gallery owner Linda Atkins said she was fortunate to have the chance to exhibit Woollaston’s artworks – one of a select few around the country to do so.
