A man armed with a knife is in the James River and refuses to come out of the water, according to the Lynchburg Police Department.
Authorities said the man was wanted out of Amherst and was involved in a police chase that started just before 2:30 a.m.

Lynchburg police say a man who was holding a knife to his throat in the James River for several hours overnight was taken into custody this morning. It happened in the river between Riveredge Park in Amherst County and downtown Lynchburg. Lynchburg Police say it bega around 2:30 when a wanted man out of Amherst County led police on a chase and drove his car into the river. He then stayed in the water with a knife while crews – including a crisis negotiation team – talked to him. The man is now in custody under an emergency custody order. Police haven’t released his name or other details.

A grass roots organization calling itself Clinton County/Highland County Citizens Concerned About Solar Farms is having an informational meeting Tuesday, May 4 at 7 p.m. at the Lynchburg Fire Department, located at 8123 S.R. 135 in Lynchburg.
On its Facebook page, the group states that it has 611 members.
State Rep. and Lynchburg native Shane Wilkin (R-Dist. 91) told The Times-Gazette that he will be in attendance at the meeting “with open eyes and an open mind” as to what concerns some of his constituents may have concerning the proliferation of solar panel farms around his home town.
One dead, one injured after fall from the railroad trestle at Riverside Park

LYNCHBURG, Va. – A man is dead after falling from the railroad trestle at Riverside Park, according to the Lynchburg Police Department.
On Sunday morning, LPD officers and members of the Lynchburg Fire Department said they responded to a report that a man had fallen from the railroad trestle at Riverside Park.
Officers and members of the LFD said they tried to save the man but were unsuccessful.
According to authorities, a woman who was also on the train trestle had non-life-threatening injuries and was checked by medics on scene and then released.
