A week after the bill was approved by both houses, bar members said their clients were increasingly being transferred to remote out-of-state ICE facilities in the South, some with records of abuse, and away from their attorneys and families. We re asking the governor to veto the bill or consider imposing standards that would improve immigration detention and protect due process rights of the detainees, said Lisa Chapman, a member of the New Jersey State Bar Association.
Murphy s legal counsel asked for recommendations from the bar association to support its request for a veto. Recommendations for alternative legislation included a 2012 white paper on improving standards for immigration detention.

The state Senate’s communications and technology committee will hold a hearing on a COVID-19 contact tracing data breach Tuesday morning, but the state Department of Health will not provide testimony. Department director of communications Barry Ciccocioppo said the agency does not comment on pending litigation, and is therefore unable to participate.
A federal class action lawsuit filed last week names both the Department of Health and its contractor, Insight Global, as defendants. The suit alleges that employees of contractor Insight Global misidentified themselves when they called people infected with COVID-19 to perform contact tracing. The lead plaintiff is Lisa Chapman of New Kensington, who told attorneys she provided private information about herself, her husband and her five minor children.

Officials in the company contracted to handle Pennsylvania’s covid-19 contact tracing efforts were aware in November of possible security breaches in their program and failed to take any action, according to a lawsuit filed Wednesday in Harrisburg.
The complaint, filed by Lisa Chapman of New Kensington, seeks class-action status. It names as defendants the Pennsylvania Department of Health and Insight Global Inc., based in Atlanta.
Insight Global did not immediately return a message seeking comment.
The health department contracted Insight last year to perform contact tracing with no competitive bidding process. The state has paid $29 million, and the contract expires in July, according to the lawsuit.
Cameron officials are weighing the future of the townâs water and police departments, including the possibility of ceding both services to the county.
During a special meeting last week at the Cameron Fire Department, the townâs commissioners told about 20 of the 300 residents they represent to expect an increase in water rates in the coming year as they try to return that enterprise fund to solvency.
The water department serves about 180 customers but has run at a deficit of about $30,000 for the past few years. Currently, some customers are dealing with poor water quality due to high iron and manganese content.
