Newark: Concern over town centre conversion next to Governor s House
| Updated: 16:47, 01 February 2021
Concerns over a town centre conversion by the Governorâs House were noted by a planning committee.
Historic England objected to the application for seven flat conversions above shop units in St Markâs Place in Newark.
Criticism included the plan for external stairs to the flats, which were said only to be one metre away from the Grade I listed Governorâs House.

âI was very concerned over the stairs,â said Lisa Geary, a member of Newark Town Councilâs planning committee.
âThe plans did not clearly show where they would be, but the example given was extremely ugly and the conservation people (Historic England) were saying it was only going to be one metre away from the Governorâs house â and would spoil the view of it.
