KERN COUNTY, Calif. â The Directing Change Program & Film Contest announced the regional finalists in the ninth annual student contest encouraging young people to create short films and art projects about suicide prevention and mental health.
Students at the Career Technical Educator Center are among the regional finalists being recognized for artistic achievements in mental health and suicide prevention.

MOORHEAD When Karla Wenger was just starting her five-decade career at Minnesota State University Moorhead, Richard Nixon was president, and Apollo 14 came back from the moon.
It took just five minutes of sitting inside Karla Wenger s office before realizing she loves her job at MSUM.
Karla went from Moorhead High to Moorhead State College in 1971. When I did worksheet and tests, I did it on a Ditto-Master, Wenger recalled.
She found work in the school s library, long before it was computerized.

MOORHEAD Minnesota State University Moorhead is bucking a regional trend in growing its summer enrollment with promotional efforts yielding a nearly 40% increase in student numbers.
MSUM has gone from 2,167 students in the summer of 2016 to a 2020 summer count of 3,015, according to figures from the university. The push to attract more students to summer enrollment was billed as a way to “complete courses wherever you are,” the school said.

PUUNENE With police officers delivering gifts and greetings along the way, there was no shortage of Christmas spirit as children in need picked up early presents during a drive-thru event at Pu’unene Shopping Center.
“This is very fun for us. They were excited the whole week,” said Wailuku resident Jay-Dee Kuaana, who has custody of her 4-year-old niece, Kaley, and 5-year-old nephew, Kaptyn. “They respect the officers. This is just another good connection for them.”
