Bhubaneswar: The state government of Odisha appears to be unconcerned about the history and heritage of its own regions as it conducts demolition drives in Ekamra Kshetra (Old Town) on the periphery of the 11th century Lingaraj temple as its first step to beautify the area and help put Bhubaneswar on the UNESCO list of world heritage sites.

The controversy over the destruction of ancient monuments around the 11th century Lingaraj Temple in Odisha’s capital Bhubaneshwar amid a State-sponsored redevelopment drive, spiralled with the Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH) stating that irreparable damage had been done to the temple and ancient shrines around it.

Bhubaneswar (Odisha) [India], January 9 (ANI): Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik launched Bindu Sagar Cleaning Project in presence of Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas and Steel, Dharmendra Pradhan in Old Town Bhubaneswar on Saturday.
Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. (IOCL) will spend Rs 70 lakh for the revival and cleaning of the lake, through the CSR Fund which is one of the natural heritage sites in the State Capital.
Indian Oil Corporation, Institute of Chemical Technology, Bhubaneswar in collaboration with Odisha Bridge Construction Company will jointly carry out the Project.
