Jimmies Win Twice Friday to Reach Bracket Championship

(jimmiepride.com) -The University of Jamestown baseball team advanced to the championship game of the Doane bracket in the GPAC postseason tournament, defeating Northwestern (Iowa) College 10-1 and Mount Marty (S.D.) University 9-5. Jamestown, now 30-22 this season, will face Doane University Saturday at 10 a.m. The Jimmies will need to defeat the Tigers twice to advance to the GPAC championship game. A bases-loaded walk to Tayler Cullen (JR/Santa Rosa, Calif.) and a two-run single by Mike Asahara (SO/Spanaway, Wash.) staked the Jimmies to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first against Northwestern in Friday’s opener.

SEWARD, Neb (jimmiepride.com).– The University of Jamestown baseball team racked up 20 hits, including 10 for extra bases, in an 11-9 win over No. 22 Concordia (Neb.) in game two of Sunday afternoon’s GPAC doubleheader at Plum Creek Park. Nine doubles, including three by Grant Okawa (SR/Mississauga, ON) and two by Taylor Cullen, along with Chase Hacker (SR/Millcreek, WA)’s home run, came off four Bulldog pitchers. Lincoln Trujillo (SR/Cheyenne, WY)’s first inning single scored Blake Arritola (SO/Salem, OR) and Okawa for a 2-0 Jimmie lead. UJ went ahead 4-0 in the top of the second on an RBI double by Hacker and a single by Arritola.

JAMESTOWN, ND. (NewsDakota.com) – The Jamestown baseball team dominated Dakota Wesleyan on both Saturday and Sunday and capped off the weekend with an 8-0 win at Jack Brown Stadium. Kendall Yackley pitched the best game of the weekend for the Jimmies, going seven innings and striking out eight Tiger batters. Yackley improved to 3-0 on the year and threw 101 total pitches while allowing just five hits. Luke Shekeryk got Jamestown going in the first inning with a two-run blast over the left field wall to put the Jimmies ahead 3-0. Shekeryk finished the day 3-for-4 with three runs driven in and a run scored. Lincoln Trujillo also hit a two-run homer over the left-field wall as well for his fifth home run of the year.
