File photo The Lincoln County Gleaners are gearing up for another successful season of harvesting vegetables, rescuing surplus food, and distributing it to multiple sites and share tables. Their goal for the 2021 season is to link and leverage the collective food security efforts, and to invite home gardeners and small farms to “Grow A Row,” in order to expand the harvest in more ways than one. “The Gleaners recognize the need for increased access to fresh local produce, and invite farmers of all abilities to join us in bringing more food to more people in Lincoln County,” said Mary Kate Reny, Lincoln County Gleaners coordinator.

Healthy Lincoln County announces VISTA position

Kate Martin, Healthy Lincoln County Sat, 03/06/2021 - 7:45am Healthy Lincoln County, a nonprofit community-based organization, is pleased to announce that it has been selected by the Maine Department of Agriculture as an approved site for an Americorps VISTA Food Security Coordinator position. This position is part of Maine’s commitment to be hunger-free by 2030. The VISTA coordinator will help build the capacity of Healthy Lincoln County’s food security system by strengthening partnerships with 15+ local food security efforts through increased efficiencies and coordination. The VISTA member will be a one-year paid position, beginning in April. The VISTA member will help identify present and ongoing needs and opportunities for improving coordination and community-based efforts to close the meal gap in Lincoln County. Courtesy of Billy Smith At Veggies to Table, a grow-to-donate farm, we are busy planning the upcoming growing season and excited to start the first of our seedlings in March. We look forward to a successful third season growing organic produce and flowers to donate to community members experiencing hunger. We have been accepted into the AmeriCorps Vista program ‘End Hunger in Maine by 2030’ and are looking for a qualified team member to help us achieve our ambitious goals to feed our community. This is a full-time, year-long capacity building position.
