KMT defends doctor over pork views

The Chinese Nationalist Party (KMT) yesterday defended Su Wei-shuo (蘇偉碩), a doctor whom the Ministry of Health and Welfare has accused of spreading false information about the effects of ractopamine on humans.
Su is a former physician at the Tainan branch of Kaohsiung Veterans General Hospital and a member of an alliance of non-governmental organizations that oppose the use of such leanness-enhancing agents on pigs.

An abrupt deviation by the Taichung City Government from arrangements made with the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) demonstrated a lack of respect and could result in global mistrust of Taiwan, Executive Yuan Secretary-General Li Meng-yen (李孟諺) said yesterday.
The Taichung City Government on Wednesday allegedly did not confer with AIT Director Brent Christensen before turning a closed-door meeting into a public briefing especially as it included a severe critique of US pork imports.

The Taiwan Comic Base yesterday said that Premier Su Tseng-chang (蘇貞昌) did not give a tax identification (ID) number when making a purchase at its comics shop on Sunday, after accusations that he was going to claim reimbursement for a personal purchase.
The Taiwan Creative Content Agency (TAICCA) in a statement on Sunday said that Su had toured the four-story Taiwan Comic Base in Taipei earlier in the day to support original comics from Taiwan and to encourage culture-related spending.
