Road Testing Begins Along Three Creeks Road
Beginning today (May 17), and continuing through Friday of next week, engineers will be conducting roadway testing along Forest Service Road (FSR) 16 (Three Creeks Road).
The roadway testing is necessary for planning the future design of the repaving of FSR 16. This testing will occur along approximately 10 miles of the paved roadway. Engineering specialists will be on site from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. throughout the week.
The public traveling along FSR 16 may experience some travel delays. Flaggers will be directing traffic during the roadway testing.

BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) Newberry National Volcanic Monument south of Bend will open many of its sites for summer visitors next week, with limited capacity due to COVID-19, the Deschutes National Forest said Friday.
Beginning on Thursday, Lava River Cave will open for daily operations through Sunday, August 22. The site will close on August 23 for the rest of the season for construction activities to improve access to the cave.
For COVID-19 mitigations, the entrance gate to the cave will open at 9 a.m. but will close intermittently for brief periods of time during the day to help manage crowd size in the cave and parking lot. Closures of the gate will not be scheduled and typically will be limited to 30 minutes. The entrance gate will close daily at 3:45 p.m.

Most campgrounds reservable; wilderness permit reservations begin Tuesday
BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) As the public makes plans for spring and summer outdoor recreation, the Deschutes National Forest offered some important information and tips Monday to help everyone be prepared, plan ahead and have a great experience recreating on the national forest this year.
Campground Information
Due to COVID-19 concerns, all Deschutes National Forest campgrounds are 100% reservable, with three exceptions. Within the Newberry National Volcanic Monument area, Cinder Hill, Paulina Lake, and Prairie campgrounds will have limited (25-35%) of camping sites available on a first come, first serve basis.

As the public makes plans for spring and summer outdoor recreation, the Deschutes National Forest wants to provide some important information and tips to help everyone be prepared, plan ahead, and have a great experience recreating on the national forest this year.
