Town council repeals mask bylaw

However, masks will still be mandatory on public transit, for ride-sharing, and in acute care and continuing care settings across Alberta in Stage 3 of the province’s reopening. Lindsay Morey/News Staff Article content Town council has repealed temporary mandatory face coverings bylaw in conjunction with the province doing the same.  While there are some instances (such as on public transit and in care homes) where masks will still be be mandatory under provincial guidelines starting July 1 residents are no longer required to wear them in most settings. However council stressed that their use will remain a personal choice.

The bylaw essentially gives residents more freedom to build structures such as storages and tool sheds, and came as a method to achieve red tape reduction, which the Government of Alberta has been pushing for. Under the passed bylaw, accessory residential buildings up to 150 sq. ft. in size no longer need a development permit, which was increased from 100 sq. ft.
