More than 91% of those Americans will be traveling by road.
Friday is expected to see the heaviest traffic, with roads especially congested in the afternoons.
Planning to get away for a Fourth of July? Be prepared to share the road with a whole lot of other drivers.
With more than 47.7 million Americans expected to travel between July 1 and 5 for Independence Day, more than 91%, or 43.6 million travelers, will be hitting the roads this year. It’s the second-largest travel volume on record, even with commuting traffic still below pre-pandemic rates.
All those vehicles mean travel volumes are expected to jump 15% over normal, according to Bob Pishue, an analyst with transportation analytics company INRIX.

(ABC 6 News) - The Cerro Gordo County Sheriff s Office said charges are pending following a single-vehicle rollover crash Monday morning.
The sheriff s office said it was called to 300th St and Lark Ave just after 11:30 a.m. Monday for a vehicle that had rolled and was on fire with someone trapped inside.
61-year-old Donna Rench of Manly was heading east on 300th St when her vehicle went into the north ditch and rolled. The sheriff s office said Rench was trapped inside the vehicle but someone who was nearby at the time helped free her.
Rench was taken to the hospital.
