In November, Laredo voters overwhelmingly approved eight proposed amendments to the City Charter, effectively instituting a filing fee for future candidates, regulating the timing of the mayor’s veto and raising the minimum qualifications for a city manager, among other changes.

Both entities own land along the border that stands to be affected by the wall. They now join the Webb County Commissioners Court, Zapata County Commissioners Court, Eagle Pass City Council and Texas Democratic Party in this initiative to stop the wall from coming to this stretch of the border before construction begins.
