Six Missouri residents have been indicted in the kidnapping and murder of another Missouri man whose body was found a year ago after a violent standoff with one of the suspects.
Acting on a tip that there was a body in the woods near a house outside Joplin, Newton County deputies and Joplin police showed up on July 28, 2020, with a search warrant to take a look. But when they stepped on the front porch to serve the warrant, someone inside opened fire, the US Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Missouri said.
The officers retreated, and no one was hurt. They called in a SWAT team that tried to negotiate with the shooter, but when he refused to surrender, they fired tear gas into the house, forcing him out.

YORK COUNTY, S.C. – A South Carolina man who is an ex-deputy has been charged with murder in the death of a retired lieutenant from the Rock Hill Police Department Friday afternoon, according to the York County Sheriff’s Office.
At 3:15 p.m. deputies were called to the Anderson Apartment Building at 108 East Main Street after Larry Vaughan was found dead in his apartment. Vaughn retired as a lieutenant with the Rock Hill Police Department.
RHPD requested the York County Sheriff’s Office to investigate the homicide due to Vaughan’s connection to the agency, according to the York County Sheriff’s Office.

ROCK HILL, S.C. The York County Sheriff s Office confirmed they ve arrested a man accused of killing a retired Rock Hill police officer.
According to a release from the sheriff s office, deputies were called to The Anderson complex on East Main Street on Friday, July 23, after a person was found dead in an apartment.
According to YCSO, the Rock Hill Police Department asked the office to investigate due to the person having ties to their agency. YCSO would eventually reveal the person who was found dead was retired Rock Hill police Lt. Larry Vaughan, who retired in 2019.

A former Chester County deputy is charged with murder after a retired Rock Hill Police Department officer was found dead in a downtown Rock Hill apartment Friday, officials said.
Evan Robert Hawthorne, 27, of Chester, has been charged with murder, said York County Sheriff Kevin Tolson.
The victim was identified by Tolson as Larry Vaughan, a retired Rock Hill police lieutenant.
Vaughan’s body was found after 3 p.m. Friday in an apartment in the Anderson Apartment Building, 108 Main Street, at the corner of Main Street and Dave Lyle Boulevard, according to a written statement released by the sheriff’s office.
