The New Era PAC is having an inaugural virtual fundraiser on Saturday. Benjamin T. Jealous, the 2018 Democratic nominee for governor and current president of the national civil rights group People For The American Way, will speak at the event. This is not a time for play-it-safe politics, Jealous wrote in an email invitation to the event. In Maryland, just like in our country as a whole, we are in a new age, filled with unprecedented challenges and unprecedented opportunities, ready to be met and seized with bold, progressive leadership.

BALTIMORE â She came here to Highlandtown to buy groceries, but a woman who would only identify herself by her first name, âJenâ, shared her story as one of the many Marylanders who have struggled due to the pandemic.
âI havenât worked since the middle of March,â Jen told us. âI lost my job and unemployment ran out. I went up to sign up last night. I just got an email that Iâm not on there so I donât know what Iâm going to do.â

Following the official launch of Comptroller Peter Franchot s campaign for governor, Del. Brooke Lierman on Thursday became the first to announce a campaign to succeed Franchot in 2022.
Lierman, a Baltimore City Democrat, has represented the 46th district since 2015.
“Maryland families are ready for leadership that understands the daily challenges we face,” Lierman said during a virtual campaign launch event. “Many of us feel stuck or falling behind during this pandemic. I’m ready to move all Marylanders forward with ideas that help families recover and leadership that unlocks opportunity for every Maryland resident, family and business.”
