If any of us look at how much we spent on rent in the last 12 years, that would be enough for a serious deposit on a place. Thatâs one of the most sickening things. Iâve paid all this rent, and Iâll still have to pay a mortgage for 30-odd yearsâ
It wasnât supposed to be like this. The Covid-19 pandemic and the much-vaunted flood of Airbnb-style accommodation on to the rental market in cities emptied of tourists was supposed to mean more choice and better prospects for long-term renters. An official eviction ban and a rent freeze promised greater security.
Thinkhouse to host âDelay is the New Denialâ Event on Earth Day
April 9, 2021
With Earth Day 2021 taking place on April 22, Thinkhouse will host an online event to discuss the marketing communications industryâs role in sustainability.
Called âDelay is the New Denialâ the event is aimed at anyone working in marketing and communications for brands and businesses and it will be hosted by Thinkhouseâs cross-functional PLANET team and powered by insights from The Youth Lab.
According to Claire Hyland, head of The Youth Lab: “David Attenborough said âSaving our planet is now a communications challenge.â We know this – and we have witnessed how, since the launch of our PLANET services over 2 years ago, brands and businesses are increasingly aligned on the need to achieve a net zero world as soon as possible. PROVIDENCE – Seoyon Kim is Rhode Island’s top speller.
The Wheeler School 8th grader out-spelled the competition during last Friday’s Rhode Island State Spelling Bee, sponsored by The Valley Breeze.
Kim went for eight rounds in the bee, which was held virtually due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Her victory secured her a place in the Scripps National Spelling Bee.
Kim said she’s nervous for the national bee, “. but I’m excited to represent Rhode Island. I’ll do my best.”
The competition’s youngest competitor, 4th-grader Laura Costello of Winsor Elementary School in Smithfield, was the runner-up.
Other participants in this year’s local competition were Lincoln Middle School 6th-grader Ethan Abreu; Max Ramirez, an 8th-grader at Birchwood Middle School in North Providence; Maiya Robert, a 7th-grader at Deering Middle School in West Warwick; and Daniel Piampiano, a 7th-grader at Scituate Middle School.

At the moment, Iâm still a bit on edge with the teachersâ unions expressing that theyâre disappointed with the decision thatâs been made. I feel that because weâve been put on hold for this decision for so long, that hopefully the Minister hasnât said anything too rash without confirmation.
It does seem like most stakeholders are on board but with the reopening of schools, or even her [Minister Foley] previously saying the traditional Leaving Cert will go ahead without calculated grades; itâs like she says one thing and then another thing seems to happen.
