A group of students in the School of Architecture at the University of Kansas have spent the year working on a project that will help the homeless. They partnered with the Lawrence Community Shelter to convert 12 storage containers into homes for homeless families. The shelter houses 45 single adults now and because of COVID, they had to stop sheltering families, moving them to hotels or permanent housing instead. But this project will allow between six and 12 families to stay in their own freestanding home, with a kitchenette and private bathroom, right in the shelter’s backyard.
