CANTON – Jennifer DeBruin will present The Underground Railroad in Northern NY and Lower Canada as the topic of a virtual Civil War Roundtable hosted by the St. Lawrence County Historical Association (SLCHA) on Sunday, Feb. 21, at 2 p.m.
Though much is discussed about the Underground Railroad routes from the U.S. into Western Ontario, it is unfamiliar to some that along the St. Lawrence River there were a series of routes to bring Freedom Seekers into Canada. This presentation will include the history of the Underground Railroad, northern routes along the St. Lawrence River, and legends and lore that exist on both sides of the border, which may help to uncover hidden stories.
