They had been working on getting access to ICU units to make a documentary series and this was before Covid-19 began. They already had contact with the characters who are in the film. Then Covid struck, and they already had the access; they didn’t have a commission to do the series but wanted to use the opportunity to make a film.”

There he was known for creating the award-winning and influential “Storyville” documentary strand. Supported technically and financed by the Swedish tech giant Magine, it quickly became available in 156 countries and as an app for both iOS and Android devices.

| 26 January 2021 Broadening its stable of media businesses with the first of several planned ventures into the digital streaming world, Hong Kong-based global distribution and multi-channel operator Lightning International acquires the bespoke prestige documentary streaming service Docsville. Set up by documentary supremo Nick Fraser and award- winning documentary maker Lawrence Elman, Docsville was one of the first premiere-curated documentary platforms to launch after Fraser departed the BBC, during which time he created the award-winning influential Storyville strand for the UK public broadcaster. The acquisition aims to expand the platform and its premium offering and Lightning will be looking to build on the success of Fraser and Elman’s stewardship and to widen Docsville’s deep content offering and reach.
