Former staff, union members and others who claim insolvent Laurentian University owes them money are getting a better idea of the path toward recouping their losses. The university and its court-appointed monitor, Ernst and Young, are establishing how the claims process goes forward.

A facility housing lab rats at Laurentian has been closed, the university confirmed Thursday.
“Laurentian University wishes to thank the community for their questions and concerns on the animal care facility,” reads a statement issued by LU president Robert Hache.

“The facility is small and has primarily housed mice and rats for medical-related research.”
Tom Fenske, president of the Laurentian University Staff Union, had earlier told The Star about the closure of the facility, noting two staff had lost jobs as a result.
“Two great people, including our most senior person, worked in the animal care facility,” he said. “They were really knowledgeable, hardworking people.”
