PROVIDENCE, RI After more than a month of rising prices, gas prices have started to level off in Rhode Island. Despite the slight decrease over the past week, AAAA experts believe a summer price surge is on the way.
Over the past week, the average price per gallon in Rhode Island fell one cent to $2.77. That price is 10 cents higher than this time last month, and 72 cents higher than this time last year.
Rhode Island s average price is 10 cents lower than tha national average of $2.87.

Despite the slight relief from rising prices, another increase could be on the way in the coming months.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) The average cost of a gallon of gasoline in Rhode Island is up another 8 cents and has now risen 31 cents in the past month alone, AAA Northeast said Monday.
The state s current per-gallon average of $2.77 is also 42 cents higher than it was one year ago, although it remains 9 cents lower than the current national average.
The national average has jumped 40 cents since last month s winter storm in Texas and prices are expected to keep rising following the Energy Information Administration’s latest weekly reports showing a second week of major decline in gasoline stocks and an increase in demand, AAA said.
