The St. Louis man has served 26 years for a murder that the St. Louis Circuit Attorney whose office originally prosecuted the case now says he didn’t commit. But the prosecutor’s office and advocates alike have been stymied by legal procedure. The Supreme Court on March 2 unanimously affirmed a lower court ruling that Circuit Attorney Kim Gardner does not have the right to motion for a new trial. The request, its decision affirmed, came decades too late.

Second man found guilty of murder in Red Carpet stabbing ST. CLOUD  A Stearns County judge has found a St. Cloud man guilty of murder in the death of a 29-year-old man in a downtown St. Cloud nightclub. Christopher Lamar Johnson, 29, was found guilty of second-degree murder with intent, but not premeditated, and one felony count of second-degree murder while committing a felony.  Johnson was charged with his brother, Lawrence Michael Johnson, 29, of St. Cloud, and Bryant Jerome Stephenson, 28, of Buffalo, in the stabbing death of Unity McGill, also of St. Cloud. According to police, the three men were kicked out of the Red Carpet Nightclub Dec. 29, 2019, after attacking an unknown man, at one point striking a nearby McGill.
