Deal Merges Prostate Cancer Charities May 17, 2021 Two charities focused on prostate cancer announced they will merge, with a timeline to complete the consolidation by September. The combined organization will operate under the name of ZERO – The End of Prostate Cancer, its 501(c)3 designation, brand, logo, and website from its Alexandria, Va. headquarters. The name and assets of Us TOO will remain in place for the Des Plaines, Ill.-based support group program which includes more than 200 support groups across North America. The boards of directors at both organizations signed a letter of intent to merge the two prostate cancer nonprofits by the end of September, which is Prostate Cancer Awareness Month. Four of Us TOO’s 13 board members will join the ZERO board, which currently has 12 members, to bring the total to 16. Historic, New CEO at American Cancer Society April 14, 2021 Karen E. Knudsen, M.B.A., Ph.D., will become the first female chief executive officer (CEO) in the 107-year history of the American Cancer Society (ACS). She will be the first scientific and oncology researcher to serve in the top staff position in the modern era. Knudsen also will become CEO of the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN), its advocacy affiliate, effective June 1. She will succeed Gary Reedy, who is retiring and has served as both organizations’ CEO since 2015. The hiring of a female CEO signals a new era for ACS, where all of its past top leaders were men, even though its Women’s Field Army was credited for building what became the modern American Cancer Society, according to an ACS announcement.
