Golden Corral in Springfield to reopen as early as this summer

Golden Corral could reopen on Springfield’s south side as early as this summer. A permit has been filed with the city for a non-structural interior demolition at 1038 LeJune Drive which housed Springfield’s only location for the Raleigh, North Carolina-based all-you-can-eat buffet chain. A spokesman for the contractor, Be Squared Construction, said the Springfield company has been hired to remodel the building with the goal of reopening as a Golden Corral this summer. Calls to the corporate office were not returned Wednesday and the Springfield location is not listed on the company website. However, the corporate-run website did indicate that its location list is being updated daily.

Golden Corral Reveals How It Created Virtual Drive-Thrus

Buffets were closed around the US, effectively shutting the chain down. The chain created virtual drive-thrus to restart business. Golden Corral made an unorthodox move for a buffet chain and added drive-thrus at some locations during the pandemic, but the drive-thrus are very different from the industry standard, CEO Lance Trenary told Insider. In 2020, buffets were virtually outlawed overnight, Trenary said, and none of Golden Corral s nearly 500 locations were allowed to open dining rooms in the early days of the coronavirus pandemic. With off-premise sales making up less than 3% of business, the chain had to make updates, fast. To do that, Golden Corral looked at restaurants with multiple access points curbside, drive-thru, and delivery were all alternative ways customers could buy food without dining inside.

Golden Corral Reinvents Itself As Buffets Disappear In Pandemic Shift

Golden Corral Reinvents Itself As Buffets Disappear In Pandemic Shift 04/15/21 AT 11:09 AM Consumer behavior has shifted during the coronavirus pandemic, and one of the biggest places where the change can be seen is in the restaurant industry. No longer are customers casually flocking to dining rooms as some restaurants still remain closed for eat-in dining, relying instead on takeout orders, delivery, and curbside pickup for revenue. While restaurants, in general, have had to overhaul the way that they do business in order to survive during the COVID crisis, one chain’s model, in particular, is looking for ways to reinvent itself to stay relevant during the pandemic.
