(Lancaster, PA) Northern Lancaster Police are warning the public about a Social Security scam. A caller says they are Detective Scott Wilson with a Social Security office near the Mexican border, adding that their social security card and credit cards were found at a crime scene in Texas. The scammer eventually says they need to get the target’s bank information to resolve the issue.

The 22-year-old victim suffered a gunshot wound to his left shoulder, police say. The incident occurred on the 300 block of Beaver St. The investigation is ongoing.

Lancaster Police are alerting the public about a pair of scams. In an update from Chief Deb Reukauf, she says the department was notified of two different scam calls happening Thursday. One of the scammers claimed to be with Amazon and stated someone used the victim’s account without permission. The victim told the scammer she didn’t have an Amazon account, yet the scammer continued to try to get her to visit a store and check the account. Another scam Lancaster Police were was alerted to was a caller telling a victim that her social security number was used to rent a car in Texas and drugs were found in the car. The scammer wanted her to share her social security number. She did not and questioned why they were asking for it because they would have it since they are calling her. The scammer asked for more information and the victim refused to share anymore details.
