In an update from Chief Deb Reukauf, she says the department was notified of two different scam calls happening Thursday. One of the scammers claimed to be with Amazon and stated someone used the victim’s account without permission. The victim told the scammer she didn’t have an Amazon account, yet the scammer continued to try to get her to visit a store and check the account. Another scam Lancaster Police were was alerted to was a caller telling a victim that her social security number was used to rent a car in Texas and drugs were found in the car. The scammer wanted her to share her social security number. She did not and questioned why they were asking for it because they would have it since they are calling her. The scammer asked for more information and the victim refused to share anymore details.
