BIRMINGHAM – The Fraternal Order of Police has issued a no-confidence vote against Birmingham Police Chief Patrick Smith.

The votes were taken on Wednesday night at a special called board meeting. According to the group’s website, the Alabama State FOP consists of 62 subordinate lodges with approximately 8,000 members.
Following the vote, FOP Lodge No. 1 attorney Liz Young cited a spike in violence throughout Birmingham since Smith’s three-year tenure began. See Young’s full statement below.
“The FOP Executive Board and the Board of Trustees unanimously voted in favor of a vote of no confidence for Chief Smith and Assistant Chief Davenport. Board members and I have attempted to resolve these issues with both the Chief and the Mayor for many months; however, no efforts have been made by either party to address our concerns.

New details have emerged of the chilling words, caught on camera, of a man who killed his partner during a drink and drug-fuelled bondage game while they were on a holiday in Wales.
Warren Martin Coulton, 52, was on Wednesday convicted of the manslaughter of his partner, mum-of-two Claire Wright, after a court heard how he had placed a sock in her mouth and may also have taped it up.
