Views: Visits 10 Lekki deep seaport Set to launch tourism master plan in June By Olasunkanmi Akoni Lagos State Government said it has secured a loan of $629 million to finance the on-going Lekki Deep Sea Port Enterprise Limited, LPLEL, billion dollar project. Commissioner for Commerce, Industry and Cooperatives, Dr. Lola Akande, disclosed this on Monday, at the year 2021 ministerial press briefing to commemorate the second year in office of Governor, Bababjide Sanwo-Olu, held in Alausa, Ikeja. Lekki deepsea port is being built over 90 hectares of land at the centre of the Lekki Free Trade Zone, LFTZ, approximately 60 kilometer east of Lagos. It is the first deepsea port to be built in Nigeria on Built Own and Transfer agreement.

Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, governors of Edo and Lagos states, Godwin Obaseki, and Babajide Sanwo-Olu, as well as Lagos State chapter of the Nigerian Union of Journalists, NUJ, yesterday sought freedom of the press in the country.
The calls came on the occasion of celebration of this year’s World Press Freedom Day.
Across the world, the Labour movement is today commemorating May Day, otherwise called Workers Day. But in Nigeria, there appears to be nothing to celebrate apart from being alive

The Nigeria Labour Congress said on Friday that the inflation rate of 18.17 per cent has reduced the value of the N30,000 minimum wage.
The Chairperson, NLC Lagos State Council, Funmi Sessi, told our correspondent in an interview that the challenges faced by workers were enormous.
She said the news of the minimum wage was no longer exciting to workers, considering the increase in prices of many items, as well as the increased electricity tariff.
According to her, the workers are suffering these increases because of the incompetence of the government and the appointment of people into office based on the sentiments of the region and party loyalties.

“My journey to being a world-famous soccer player wasn’t easy. The war started right from my father’s house in far-away Port Harcourt, some decades ago. My father actually wanted me to be a roadside mechanic”.
With these words, former Super Eagles of Nigeria and AC Milan of Italy player, Taribo West, told his story of growing up.
Narrating the story further, he said his mum disapproved of his father’s wish that he should be a mechanic.
His words: “My mother resisted strongly. She begged and begged him to allow me have, at least, a secondary school education, but he refused.
