Spartanburg County Coroner Rusty Clevenger has identified a 23-year-old man who was shot and killed Monday.
Rodderick Lakeem Sparks, of Laconia Circle, was pronounced dead at 10:45 p.m. Monday at Spartanburg Medical Center.
The shooting is being investigated as a homicide, Clevenger said.
Authorities report the shooting happened on Pinegate Drive, where some students live off campus while attending the University of South Carolina Upstate in Spartanburg County.
A forensic exam has been scheduled for Tuesday. The Spartanburg County Sheriff s office and Coroner s Office are investigating.
USC Upstate officials said Sparks was a student and they are saddened by his death. The university also said the shooting is an isolated incident and that there is no threat to campus.
