First responders getting COVID vaccine

New Year’s Eve was special for Laconia Police Chief Matt Canfield. That’s when he got his COVID-19 vaccine shot.
For just over a week now, firefighters, EMTs and police officers have been getting vaccinated against the coronavirus that, as of Monday, had infected 20.9 million Americans, 47,328 of them in New Hampshire.
First responders are part of the state’s first phase of vaccine distribution. Health care workers and people associated with long-term care facilities have already begun receiving their shots.
LACONIA â A Christmas Day fire gutted the first-floor headquarters of the Laconia Motorcycle Week Association and temporarily trapped a resident in a second-floor apartment.
âWe lost all of our historical archives, memorabilia â of which we had an awful lot â all of our inventory, all of our stock, all of our office equipment and computers â pretty much everything, and most tragically, we lost our office cat, Ashland,â Charlie St. Clair, the associationâs executive director since 1991, said Monday.
St. Clair estimated losses to be in âthe hundreds of thousands of dollars.â
Reported at 9:53 a.m. Friday, the two-alarm fire at 1105 Union Avenue remains under investigation but is believed to be electrical, Laconia Fire Chief Kirk Beattie said.
