ELK GROVE, Wis. Two people were hospitalized Sunday afternoon after a van hit a horse-drawn buggy from behind, sending the buggy and its occupants into a ditch.
Officials with the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office said they were first alerted to the crash around 4:30 p.m. An initial investigation revelated the buggy was traveling westbound in the 24000 block of State Highway 81 when the van hit the buggy from behind. The crash sent the buggy into the north ditch and caused all three occupants to get ejected from the buggy.
Authorities said one of the occupants was taken to a local hospital and then airlifted to Madison via UW Med Flight. Another occupant was airlifted via UW Med Flight from the scene of the crash. The third occupant was treated for injuries at the scene and then released.
