Nearly seven in 10 Filipinos believe the worst of the COVID-19 pandemic is over, according to a nationwide survey conducted in November more than a month before the detection of a more transmissible coronavirus variant in the country.

Police Regional Office Cordillera (PROCOR) Information Officer Capt. Marnie Abellanida said a total of 99,620 fully grown marijuana plants worth P20.1 million were destroyed in eight marijuana plantation sites in the towns of Bakun and Kibungan.
Just last month, operatives uprooted nearly P20-million worth of marijuana plants in those same towns.
In Kibungan, 62,170 fully grown marijuana plants, 125 kilos of marijuana seedlings, and 30 kilos of dried marijuana stalks, estimated to be worth P16.039 million, were eradicated by the Benguet Provincial Police Office (PPO).
Then in a separate operation in Bakun town, operatives of the Benguet PPO discovered 16,150 fully grown marijuana plants, with an estimated value of P3.23 million, in different sites in Barangay Kayapa. These, too, were uprooted and burned.

File February 08, 2021 DEPARTMENT of Health (DOH) Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire on Monday, February 8, 2021, apologized to the Province of Cebu over a report about a B.1.1.7 variant case from Liloan town.
Vergeire, however, said the DOH report was based on information provided by the patient at the time that he was tested for Sars-CoV-2, the virus that causes coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).
The patient had listed Liloan, Cebu as his address in the case investigation form. His swab specimen, which was collected on January 17 in Metro Manila, was found positive for the B.1.1.7 variant of Sars-CoV-2.
“We’d like to apologize to the Province of Cebu. Hindi po tayo para mag-instigate nitong takot, ngunit iyon lang po talaga ang ating regular.o kasama po doon sa pagre-report natin talaga because that’s part of the case investigation form,” Vergeire said in a virtual press briefing Monday.
